Second Volunteer Day for One Planet Food Project
9th March 2010
Making a living shelter from natural willow is easy and fun if someone shows you how.
On Saturday 27th March a bunch of fifteen volunteers from the One Planet Food Project learnt how to make a beautiful eco-friendly shelter, under the expert guidence of living willow specialist Barbara Clift.
Barbara has lovingly made countless green willow structures and play spaces and has participated in Gardeners World with Monty Don.
Colourful fences now curve around a yurt style shelter constructed of red, green and yellow willows and two flexible woven archways lead into a secret garden at the edge of the Education Area of the 4 acre growing plot. Now the sun is shining and spring is on the way, the buds will swell and green shoots will soon be spreading out to fill the gaps with foliage and consolidate the structure.
By summer-time school children, visitors and volunteers will be able to seek shade inside a fun garden feature that many hands have helped to shape.
