First One Planet Project volunteer day held
1st February 2010
The first ever volunteer day for the ‘One Planet Food Project’ was held on 23rd, January 2010 at Occombe Farm. the eight volunteers and Emily the Project Grower looked at the plans and designs of the exciting new vegetable garden and walked around the site in the muddy field where the pigs still live. It was a chance to get to know each other and talk about the project. We started with clearing brambles around the boundary of the garden, and cutting hazel for pea sticks and bean poles. We also sowed sweet peas and measured the fields for our site plans. We all sat outside in the sunshine and had a picnic in warm sunshine and clear blue skies unbelievable for a January day. Everyone commented on how it was exciting to be involved in practical work at the beginning of this amazing project Emily Vevers Occombe Grower e.vevers@countryside-trust.org.uk
