Occombe piglets are out & about!
7th August 2009
Our eight new piglets are now venturing out and about to explore the large grassy area beyond their farrowing ark. The piglets are easily identifiable in the long grass - a sandy colour with lots of black spots! Their mother is a Berkshire sow, dark all over, whilst the piglets are Berkshire crossed with Oxford Sandy & Black.
Rumour has it that they are not so keen on the torrential downpours we've had recently, preferring to shelter in the warmth of their ark when the weather is bad - who can blame them? They're not hugely confident yet so tend to be sticking by each other's side, following closely behind their mother's tail. If you're lucky you will see the piglets yourself on your next visit to Occombe - head for the orchard, the pig's field is past the pond, on the right.
